I’m interested in what time does to the things we expect to last.
The news moves fast and treats every moment as urgent. Time moves slowly and wears everything down: buildings, institutions, beliefs, bodies. My work sits in the tension between the two, looking at the present from a longer distance, as if it were already a ruin, a relic or an artifact.
Material is where the thinking happens. I work mostly in clay, but also in fresco, concrete, found objects and whatever a piece calls for. I’m interested in old and new technologies alike, from fresco and alternative and primitive firing methods to newer digital tools, and in pushing materials and processes past where they’re supposed to stop. Each experiment leads to the next, so the practice keeps expanding.
